Community Relations is an essential part of the services provided by the Escambia-Pensacola Human Relations Commission to the community.  Community Relations is solely funded by the City of Pensacola.  Our agency, through several pilot and continuing programs, utilize Community Relations as a means to ensure that our doors and lines of communication continue throughout our community.

The City of Pensacola’s funding allows HRC’s Community Relations to provide assistance to local community and non-profit organizations.  Without this funding smaller groups or organizations may not be able to carry out or extend their services to the community.  When there is a need for additional funding to help meet these goals an organization can submit a Community Relations application for funding consideration.

Over the years, the HRC’s assistance has helped many organizations.  Following is a short list of some organizations assisted:

M.L.K.C.C.C. (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration Commission)
P.C.A.R.A. (Pensacola Community Arts & Recreation Association)
Baby Rattlers
Brent Lane T-Ball
HRC’s Santa’s Run
HRC’s Senior Santa
HRC’s Terry Wayne East Youth Park

M.L.K.C.C.C. (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration Commission)
The EPHRC has been a key component and catalyst to MLKCCC activities from its inception.  We have provided financial and logistical support, in an effort to insure the celebrations continued existence.  To this day, the MLKCCC is headquartered from the offices of the HRC.  We are proud to be supporters of this effort and hope to continue our fruitful relationship with the MLKCCC.

Summer Bash
Another component of our continued outreach is Summer Bash.  Summer Bash, which began in 1999 as a pilot program has been a wonderful success.  We have provided a safe and constructive environment for the citizens of Pensacola to enjoy themselves during five weeks of the summer months.  Because of our usage of the area, the Cecil T. Hunter pool and newly named Hollice S. Williams Park now boasts a gazebo, electrical outlets, and extended restroom facilities.  The park area also boasts new tennis courts and a newly re-surfaced basketball courts.

Upcoming Activities

The Human Relations will host once again our Police Community Workshop.  The Human Relations Commission has a history of mediating relationships between law enforcement and the community it serves.   We plan to reintroduce our workshops in what we hope to be an annual event.

Any non-profit organization or group can submit an application for assistance.  If you have any questions regarding Community Relations, please contact Ms. Rebecca Hale at rhale@ephrc.org.
